3-Month Semaglutide Journey (Detailed Mochi Review)

I'm down 18 lbs on semaglutide after 12 weeks (stats at the bottom of the post), and I wanted to share my thoughts.

Why didn't I go to my primary care doctor? Well, I tried. I visited my primary care doctor for my annual visit the first week in October. I weighed in at an all-time high. She didn't want to even discuss GLP-1s. When I brought it up, she actually said "Why don't you just focus on putting less in your mouth?" ... I decided that was enough of that, it was time to take control. After researching my options over the next week or so, I joined Mochi and scheduled a consultation for late October.

The Mochi doctor was very straightforward. He said I was a good candidate because I had more than 50 pounds to lose and I have a family history of type 2 diabetes plus my history of gestational diabetes. I shared my bloodwork numbers from my primary care visit since I happened to have it. He talked to me about nutrition, outlined the differences in the medications and helped me pick one, told me what to expect both from the medication and the Mochi fulfillment process. He advised I try to lose weight nice and steady, 1-2 pounds per week (spoiler alert: I nailed it). He helped me set a weight loss goal based on my history. It was great, very positive.

I chose semaglutide because it was more affordable. He put in the prescription the next day, I authorized payment, and I had it within a week. Every time I've put in for a refill, I get the meds within a week (Aequita pharmacy). Only complaint with Aequita is the blue cap on the vial is hard to remove and sometimes wants to tear away the aluminum ring.

  • MONTH ONE: I had some mild nausea on Day 2 with my first 3 injections. I didn't feel all that different at the 0.25 mg starter dose (in terms of food noise, fullness, etc), but I still lost 6.2 lb (1.6 per week) that first month.
  • MONTH TWO: I upped to 0.5 mg, and I'm glad I did because I finally understand what everyone means when they talk about their food noise going quiet. For the first time since I can remember, I actually feel full and respect the fullness. I'm not thinking about my next meal or snack constantly. I've never felt this way in my life. I felt a little more nausea than the previous month. I lost 7.1 lb (1.8 per week). Doc said no need to ramp up the dose every month if a lower dose is working, so I decided to stay on the 0.5 mg dose for month three since my results were strong and I figured I could use more time to adjust (re: nausea).
  • MONTH THREE: I had my first week of a 0 lb weight loss, but I was constipated for four days, so I was quite literally full of poo. Needless to say, FIBER and hydration were my focus all month long. Magnesium citrate, fiber supplement, beans. The nausea subsided almost entirely. I lost 5.3 lb (1.3 lb per week). Zero nausea in month three, so I'm glad I stayed on the dose.
  • 90-DAY FOLLOW-UP: At the follow up we discussed my progress, my side effects, etc, and he advised me about my future dosing schedule. Even though the 90-day check-in is no longer required, I'll probably still do it. I like having someone verify that I'm doing the right things. Also, I really like the doctor I've been paired with.

I've never needed to reach out to customer service, so I can't report on that. The app isn't great, I just use the website but even the weight tracking on the website is a little wonky (if I say I injected on a certain date, it automatically assigns the dosage as my last refill dosage, but I refill early so it's perpetually tracking the wrong dosage). I keep my own spreadsheet on Google Sheets with all the details I want to track.
